Marilyn Visits with the Stars of "Play It Cool" in New York City

Sally Mayes deserves every accolade her performance as "Mary" has earned her from the critics. Her scat singing is beyond brilliant!

Chris Hoch was a deliciously sleazy "Eddie"

Marilyn travelled to New York City to hear
her songs "Future Street" and "In A Lonely Place" performed in the Off-Broadway production of the jazz-noir musical PLAY IT COOL. She enjoyed meeting and visiting with the cast members after the show!

2 on the aisle!

Michael F. McGuirk's "Henry" was menacing
and yet sensitive - while Robyn Hurder as "Lena"
was dazzlingly gorgeous and sang a wonderful
duet with Sally on IN A LONELY PLACE.

Michael Buchanan as "Will" sang FUTURE STREET
and has a truly bright future on stage!

They Say The Neon Lights Are Bright . . . Off-Broadway!

Marilyn is THRILLED that "In A Lonely Place" was singled out in Karen Nowosad's Newark Examiner review of PLAY IT COOL, and "Future Street" was singled out in Michael Feingold's Village Voice review of the show, currently running Off-Broadway at the Acorn Theater, throurgh October 9th, 2011.

"Be sure to listen to: ... “In a Lonely Place"
                                  - Karen Nowosad, Newark Examiner

"...the song most likely to survive, "Future Street" (music by Marilyn Harris,
one of five writers credited with "additional music")."
                                  - Michael Feingold, Village Voice

Prof. Marilyn Returns For The 5th Year

On Thursday, April 7, 2011 Marilyn was welcomed back for the 5th straight year as guest lecturer in Dr. Kelland  Thomas' "Careers in Music" class at the University of Arizona School of Music. Marilyn spoke frankly about her varied background and experiences, discussed her new CD "Orphans" and her take on songwriting (of which she performed many live examples), relationships, collaboration and stratagem for post-college employment and success in the music business.

Here Comes "Orphans" - A New CD from Marilyn

On February 7th, 2011 (an early Valentine's Day gift) Marilyn premiered her new YouTube.com video entitled, "Countries In Love" - a song written and performed by Marilyn and Mark Winkler with a fabulous Tenor Sax solo by Dan Higgins. To see the video now to go to Marilyn's Videos page. On March 8th, 2011 Marilyn's newest Wrightwood Records CD, "Orphans" was released. It's a fabulous collection of 17 great Marilyn Harris songs that's sure to please both fans of Marilyn and first-time listeners alike.

2010

Marilyn just finished a 6-month engagement playing piano
and singing with drummer Roscoe Freund and bassist
Rick Shosie at Sullivan's Steakhouse on Monday evenings.

Marilyn's song, "Bebop High" (from her Wrightwood Records CD with the L. A. Jazz All-Stars Big Band "Round Trip") was made into a  YouTube.comvideo a couple of years ago. It has just passed the 31,000  viewings mark - and is still climbing!

It features 2 terrific solos by Pete Christlieb on tenor sax and Dan Higgins on alto sax.  See it on Marilyn's Videos page -

Marilyn has been playing once per month at
the Kingfisher Bar & Grill with
Roscoe Freund's "The Art Of Swing".

Marilyn accompanied singer Rebecca Carlson and saxophonist Sidney George every Friday and Saturday from April 2010 through September at the Flying V Bar & Grill at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

2009

Marilyn had a very busy Fall season.  Following the untimely death of pianist Lloyd Bartlett, Marilyn subbed in concerts and rehearsals for Tom Patrick's BIG BAND EXPRESS at the Gaslight Theatre (Nov. 9th), and has also been playing trio gigs at the Desert Diamond Casino and Kingfisher, private parties, the Gaslight Christmas show, and many other gigs in and around Tucson and Green Valley.

Marilyn's original song, "My Dissipation" (from her 2004 CD "Future Street") was prominently quoted and credited in a July 17, 2009 review of New York City cabaret artist Sharon McKnight (who performed the song in her act) in the Arts Section of The New York Times.  To read the review

Marilyn was the featured vocalist with Tom Patrick and the BIG BAND EXPRESS on April 27th, 2009 at the sold out Gaslight Theatre.  She sang three Marilyn Harris originals (with big band arrangements by Mark Wolfram) and another song from the BBE book.  It was a great time, a great crowd and great music!  Thanks to Tom and Glenn Harmon for making this happen!

Marilyn played over 40 performances of the Gaslight Theatre's holiday opus, "On The Road To The North Pole". She's now played for eight of the last nine Gaslight shows. If you'd watched and listened closely you would've seen and heard Marilyn in the background of an "Arizona Illustrated" feature about the Gaslight Theatre on KUAT-TV.

On Monday, March 30th Marilyn joined Lisa Otey's Piano Night at The Z Mansion with an all-new show of songs by her friends and parody songs. Lisa began the evening with a few songs and stories (especially of her recently broken hand) - playing with a soft cast on her left hand. Marilyn and Lisa also dueted on the Blues - despite Lisa's broken fingers. It was a great night of entertainment!

Marilyn joined singer Rebecca Carlson and saxophonist Sidney George on Valentine's Day (Saturday, February 14th) for an evening of love songs at Piazza Gavi (at Sunrise & Kolb) from 5:30 - 9:30pm.

2008

On Sunday, December 21, 2008 Marilyn was a featured performer at the Old Pueblo Grille in Tucson. She was part of the house trio (including Pete Swan on drums and Scott Black on bass) for Open Mic Night.  Many musicians came on out and sat in with them - singing and playing their favorite tunes with the band.  A good time was had!

On Thursday, December 11, 2008 Marilyn returned to Javelinas Coffee and Friends in Rita Ranch as part of their jazz songwriter showcase.  She performed several original Marilyn Harris songs to the delight of the crowd.

Marilyn returned for one night to Colors (5303 E. Speedway) - from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday, December 5th for an evening of singing and piano playing.

On Friday, October 17th, 2008 Marilyn Harris performed a one hour show of her fabulous original songs and standards from the Great American Songbook at the Pima Community Performing Arts Center in Green Valley - bassist Mike Levy provided accompaniment.

Marilyn was the music coordinator for and provided Special Music for the Sunday Celebration Services (10:30am) at the Tucson Center for Spiritual Living several Sundays a month.  See their website for monthly updates.

Singing and playing for the Gaslight Theater's production of "The Lone Stranger" was fun in March - they're a real talented bunch of folks who always play to an enthusiastic full house audience. Marilyn has subbed for "Arizona Smith and the Relic of Doom", "Beach Blanket Bebop", "Frankenstein Lives" and is currently subbing throughout the holiday season in performances of "A Small Town Christmas".  Check it out! www.thegaslighttheatre.com

Marilyn joined singer Rebecca Carlson and saxophonist Sidney George on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 11th) at Piazza Gavi (at Sunrise & Kolb) from 5:00 - 9:00pm.

On Monday, April 7, Marilyn made a return engagement at Lisa Otey's Piano Night series at Z Mansion, 288 N. Church.

On Satuday, April 12th, Marilyn joined DAMARIS & FRIENDS at the Unitarian Church on 22nd Street, which featured artists Darwin, Lou Stebner, Joel Gottschalk, Uncle Dave Jeffrey and Lorna Govier. www.damarisdrewrysings.com

Marilyn joined singer Rebecca Carlson and saxophonist Sidney George on Valentine's Day (Thursday, February 14th) at Piazza Gavi (at Sunrise & Kolb) from 5:00 - 10:00pm.

Marilyn's luck held out for her appearance at the GOVAC "Bet The House" Gala (www.govac.org) on March 8th - she traded sets with Paul Elia and Bruce Halper from 6:30pm to 10:30pm at the El Conquistador Country Club, 10555 N. La Canada in Oro Valley.

Marilyn Featured with the Desert Divas

On Saturday, January 19, 2008, Lisa Otey and the Desert Divas returned to the Berger Performing Arts Center for their annual concert.  Hurricane Carla, Liz McMahon, Regina "the Queen", and Diane Van Deurzen joined Rich Nordenberg on bass and Jon Westfall on drums in welcoming Marilyn Harris as Guest Diva for the night.

SANTA BABIES

A Jazzy Holiday Program

at The Steinway Piano Gallery

Former Chicago pianist-singer Judy Roberts and saxophonist Greg Fishman joined Tucson singer-songwriter Marilyn Harris in a holiday concert at the Steinway Piano Gallery (2850 E. Speedway Blvd.) on Thursday, December 20th, 2007 at 7:00pm.

The sellout crowd was treated to Judy's special arrangements of such holiday standards as "Let It Snow", "Christmastime Is Here" and her tribute to Arizona, "Winter Wonderland/Desert Wonderland".  Marilyn debuted 2 of her original Christmas songs for Tucson audiences, and they all harmonized on swinging versions of the classic holiday songs everyone loves.

You can see a 9 minute video of concert highlights at Marilyn's Video Clips page.
